Official says OPEC+ likely to drop plan to reschedule next meeting

BAKU, Feb 10 (PRIME) -- A meeting of the OPEC plus deal states will most probably be held in early March as planned despite the outbreak of coronavirus in China, Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Pyarviz Shakhbazov said on February 9.

“There will be no early meeting in the OPEC plus format due to the coronavirus most probably. The countries are discussing coronavirus in the framework of OPEC, the OPEC secretariat is coordinating these discussions. Azerbaijan is presenting its position as well,” Shakhbazov said.

The official said that whereas there were earlier discussions about the need to reschedule the next meeting of OPEC plus due to the virus, the idea was abandoned.

The minister also said that the coronavirus depressed the oil prices by more than 10% but the situation has recently started to stabilize.
